Subject Inspection - PE

03-May-23

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

We would like to inform you that the Department of Education Inspectorate will be visiting our school on Thursday, May 4th and Monday, May 8th to conduct an inspection specifically in Physical Education (PE). The inspectors want to hear students' opinions and ideas, so they follow the Lundy Model of Participation to ensure they listen to everyone fairly. This means they:

• Give students a chance to share their thoughts. • Listen carefully to what they say. • Take their opinions seriously. • Use their ideas to make improvements.

During their visit, the inspectors will be holding a "PE subject inspection," and some students will be invited to join a special focus group to discuss their experiences in PE classes. Here's how it works:

Thursday, May 4th:

  1. The inspector will visit our school and observe three classes.
  2. Some students will be invited to join the focus group, and they'll receive permission slips to give to their parents.

Monday, May 8th:

  1. If your child is interested, please have them return the signed permission slip in the morning.
  2. If more than 10 students want to join, the inspectors will choose up to 10 of them to ensure that the group represents different backgrounds, abilities, and interests. The focus group will take place later that day.

After the focus group meeting, we will keep the permission slips according to our school's records-management policy.

We have shared this information with our students and hope this helps you understand what will be happening during the inspectors' visit. If you have any questions or concerns about the PE inspection, please don't hesitate to contact us or another member of the school staff.

Best regards,

Daniel Hyland

Principal
