Transition Year

Transition Year

The aim of Clarin College’s TY Programme is to give students opportunities to discover and develop their individual gifts and strengths, to become more independent and to experience a year where the emphasis will be on cultivating individual responsibility for study and self-directed work.

The programme aims also to encourage the development of thinking, caring, articulate and self-confident people. Students will be helped to discover individual talents, aptitudes and abilities, understand their own educational needs and develop those skills and competencies necessary to cope successfully with their particular stage of development.

Transition Year Curriculum

Students doing Transition Year study 6 core subjects and get a taster of all Leaving Certificate subjects on a modular basis. By taking this approach Clarin College believes our students are then equipped to make an informed decision regarding the subject choice for Senior Cycle. Furthermore, students are exposed to a wider concept of education – education for its own sake. Hence the great emphasis is placed on student activity, on the development of the imagination and the emotions, on communication skills, on teamwork and co-operation.

Transition Year Fees Structure

A deposit of €150 is required to secure a place. Two further payments of €200are due on the 5th of October 2023 and 8th February 2023. The cost of participating in Transition Year for the 2023-2024 school year is €550. Please note the TY specific modules are a central feature of the programme as are educational trips and outings. To be in a position to secure the most beneficial guest workshops and trips which are in high demand from other schools we must pre-book in advance i.e. before the end of May this year.

Therefore it is important that the deposit is paid on time for the following reasons:

  • While the school subsidises many events it could not possibly run the programme without the fees collected.
  • We would ask parents to be aware of the above and if your child is participating in TY please submit fees accordingly.
