The Board of Management manages the school on behalf of the patron and is accountable to the patron and the Minister. The Board must uphold the characteristic spirit (ethos) of the school and is accountable to the patron for so doing. The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school, including providing guidance and direction to the teachers and other staff of the school and is accountable to the Board for that management.
Generally, a Board of Management consists of eight members, made up of the following:


- The term of office for a Board of Management is three years.
- All correspondence to the Board of Management is managed by the Secretary of the Board of Management who is also the Principal of the school.
- On the occasion of the setting up of a new board or at a subsequent date, the ETB may, on the nomination of the school board of management, appoint an additional person/s to the board of management in order to facilitate relevant partnership and inclusive representation to support the educational remit of the particular school. In this regard, a board may nominate a representative/s from primary schools within the school’s catchment area, or from local associations/organisations, or from industry/commerce, or from students over the age of 18 years who are currently enrolled in the school, to fill an additional place/s. The person/s so nominated by the board of management and appointed by the ETB is/are hereinafter referred to as ‘the Board of Management.
