Clarin College Athenry

Principal's Welcome

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

On behalf of all the staff, I would like to welcome everyone to Clarin College. It is a privilege to serve as the Acting Principal of a school with such a rich history of excellence in teaching and extra-curricular activities. This introduction will give you an insight into what we offer our students and what they, in turn, offer us.

Clarin College is a co-educational, multi-denominational Community College with 1,100 post-primary students and a teaching staff of 90. We are supported by 18 Special Needs Assistants, 3 Clerical Officers, 2 Caretakers, and 2 Cleaning Staff. Since our foundation in 1968, we have strived to create a positive learning environment, offering a comprehensive range of subjects with the most up-to-date facilities.

We make a special effort to ensure that all students have access to a broad mix of scientific, academic, technological, and artistic subjects. Our school has an outstanding reputation for care, and I am proud to be part of such an excellent institution.

Our goal is to ensure that all students become critical thinkers, active problem-solvers, inquisitive readers, diligent researchers, and prolific writers. We do all of this to prepare your child for the demands of the real world, so they may become productive citizens, future leaders, and contribute positively to the community.

Quality education is paramount, and our excellent academic programme, alongside the recognition of each student's unique individuality, provides an exceptional start in life. We nurture, challenge, support, and encourage our students, and in return, they respond with a passion for life, a love of learning, and the courage to serve others.

I encourage each parent/guardian to stay active in your child's education. I realise that many of you lead busy lives. However, taking just a few minutes in the evening to talk with your child about school or ensuring they are organised for the next school day can have great benefits. Our school diary is an excellent tool for checking that your child has completed all their assigned work.

Our school uniform is important because it symbolises a specific purpose for the day: learning. It creates a sense of belonging and identity within the school community, which extends to a feeling of pride in performance and appearance. I would encourage parents/guardians to ensure their child has the correct and full uniform for each school day.

I extend a warm greeting to our many past pupils and take this opportunity to say that your school is proud of you, and you are always welcome to visit and reminisce with staff and see the changes taking place in the school.

Your child's personal well-being is essential to us. If you have any concerns about your child or any of their friends, please let us know. Furthermore, if you have any ideas on how we can improve our service, please share your thoughts with us.

I am proud of our current student cohort and the great determination with which they pursue the many varied and exciting programmes on offer at the school.

I hope you enjoy reading through our website. Thank you for visiting.

Sincerely,

Susan McGann
